JA Our Nation®

JA Our Nation introduces fifth-grade students to the intersection of work readiness and upper elementary grades social studies learning objectives. Through hands-on classroom activities, the program provides students with practical information about the nation’s free market system and how it serves as an economic engine for businesses and careers. The curriculum also introduces the need for entrepreneurial and innovative thinking to meet the requirements of high-growth, high-demand careers and the concept of globalization in business.

JA Our Nation is a series of five required sessions and one optional supplemental session recommended for students in fifth grade. Each session is 45 minutes in length. Materials are packaged in a self-contained kit that includes detailed session plans for the volunteer and materials for 32 students.

All JA programs are designed to support the skills and competencies identified by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. JA programs also correlate to state standards in social studies, English, and mathematics, and to Common Core State Standards.

JA Economics for Success®

JA Economics for Success lays bare for students the heart of a successful economic life: choosing the right career and managing money properly.

Following participation in the program, students will be able to explore their skills, interests, values, and the world of work to make informed education, career, and life decisions. The program also will expand their knowledge of personal finance—including smart budgeting, wise credit use, and minimizing financial risk—so they can apply strong financial management skills regardless of their income.

The program, which targets students in middle school, is composed of six 45-minute sessions. Materials are packaged in a self-contained kit that includes detailed plans for the volunteer and materials for 32 students.

Session-specific, student-friendly materials are included to increase student interaction and emphasize JA’s experiential approach to learning.

JA programs correlate to state social studies, English, and math standards, and to Common Core State Standards.

JA Be Entrepreneurial®

JA Be Entrepreneurial introduces students to the essential elements of a practical business plan and then challenges them to start an entrepreneurial venture while still in high school.

Students will learn about advertising, competitive advantages, financing, marketing, and product development.

The program is composed of seven sessions, each 45 minutes in length. The program is recommended for students in grades nine through 12. Materials are packaged in a self-contained kit that includes detailed session plans for the volunteer and materials for 32 students.

All JA programs are designed to support the skills and competencies identified by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. JA programs also correlate to state standards in social studies, English, and mathematics, and to Common Core State Standards.

JA Personal Finance®

JA Personal Finance focuses on earning money; spending money wisely through budgeting; saving and investing money; using credit cautiously; and protecting one’s personal finances.

Following participation in the program, students will be able to recognize the fundamental elements of smart personal finances. They also will be able to apply those elements to a personal financial plan that allows them to set specific goals for their lifelong financial needs and desired quality of life.

JA Company Program®

JA Company Program provides basic economic education for high school students by allowing them to organize and operate an actual business. Students not only learn how businesses function, they also learn about the structure of the U.S. free enterprise system and the benefits it provides.

Volunteer consultants from the local business community employ a variety of hands-on activities and technological supplements to challenge students to use innovative thinking. The business skills that students learn in this after-school program will prove valuable as they begin to consider higher education and career choices.

Each JA Company Program kit contains a plethora of resources, including a handbook for teachers and volunteers and interactive, take-home materials for students. Materials are packaged in a self-contained kit that includes detailed activity plans for the volunteer and enough materials for 24 students.

JA Company Program teams from the United States and Canada may be eligible to participate in the North American JA Student Company of the Year Competition.
